First becoming a tech lead could be a daunting task. Here lists six surviving tips that might be useful in your first 90 days.

Communicate Clearly and Frequently

A good tech lead communicates effectively. This makes sure that the team members have a clear understanding of the roles, goals, and any expectations or deadlines. The best way to ensure clear communication is to have regular team meetings, either in person or via video conferencing.

As a tech lead, I scheduled tech 1:1 meeting for each team members on a weekly basis. These meetings can be used to discuss progress, address any issues or concerns, and align on next steps. Another way is to have a team private Slack channel. This allows team members to ask questions, raise concerns, and get feedback in a timely manner.

When communicating with your team, it’s important to be clear, concise, and respectful. Avoid using jargon or technical terms that might not be familiar to all team members, and make an effort to listen and understand their perspective.

It’s also important to maintain good communication with other teams within your organization. This might include cross-functional teams, teams working on related projects, or teams that rely on your team’s work. Make sure that there are clear channels of communication between your team and other teams, such as through regular meetings or email updates.
